The General Audit Chamber attended the X Congress of the Caribbean Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions

Philipsburg – The General Audit Chamber attended the X Congress of the Caribbean Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (CAROSAI) from May 30 to June 2, 2016. The Congress was held in Paramaribo Suriname and had as its theme “Strengthening SAI’s through training, collaborative Audits and Implementation of ISSAIs.” ISSAI’s are the international standards for Supreme Audit Institutions.

The participating Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI’s) benefited from the exchange of information with colleagues from throughout the region. During the congress, participants identified areas to improve performance audit practices, while providing better reporting to their legislative bodies and stakeholders. The General Audit Chamber, the SAI of Sint Maarten, has already executed a number of performance audits in addition to financial compliance investigations.

In addition, the Congress determined that the Caribbean region shares a commonality of issues that provide good opportunities for cooperative audits. The General Audit Chamber will explore the feasibility of collaborative audits with regional SAI’s.

During the X Congress, chairmanship of CAROSAI was transferred to Suriname and the decision was taken to move the secretariat of the CAROSAI to Jamaica. The Congress also welcomed the newest member to the organization, the Court of Audit of Curaçao.
